William Bateman
(He/Him/His)
William Bateman is a physiotherapist and educator specializing in chronic pain management. After founding a clinic for rock climbing injuries, he pioneered a non-pharmacological pain management program for underserved communities at Vancouver Coastal Health. Now, he’s reopening a practice in Squamish with a focus on persistent pain.
William began his physiotherapy career in 2013 in private practice in Squamish, BC. In 2015, he opened a clinic focused on treating rock climbing injuries, and noticed how frustrating tendon injuries can be, and at times, the circuitous nature of the recovery process. This sparked an interest in chronic pain and its persistence. To better support his clients, he studied chronic pain management.
In 2019, William joined Vancouver Coastal Health (VCH) as a clinical lead and educator. He designed BC’s first low-barrier, non-pharmacological pain management program for underserved populations in Vancouver’s Downtown Eastside. The program aimed to treat and support clients with complex and persistent pain, alongside mental health illness and addictions.
In 2023, William took a sabbatical to develop an introductory mental health course for clinicians looking to expand their knowledge base in mental health and psychologically-informed care. He is currently piloting this curriculum.
In April 2024, he became the Program Lead for VCH’s PSS+ program, focused on facilitating complex hospital discharges through a reablement lens. He also serves as an executive with the Canadian Physiotherapy Association’s Pain Science Division and is a Clinical Instructor at the UBC Physical Therapy Department.
He is returning to work with his community in Squamish one day a week.
Outside of work, William enjoys rock climbing and exploring the beautiful outdoor activities in the Sea to Sky corridor.
Am I the right physiotherapist for you?
My practice focuses on helping you understand your injuries and recover from long-lasting pain, whether it stems from an accident, a sports injury, or has no clear cause. I’ll guide you in recognizing your limits, determining when to push yourself, and identifying the best management strategies for your pain.
I base my approach on evidence and research. While immediate pain relief is important, I emphasize teaching you how to manage your pain independently and gradually increase your activity tolerance. I also understand that mental health and psychology plays a significant role in recovery, so I tailor my treatments to support your overall well-being. Together, we can explore incremental and impactful changes that will allow you to move with confidence.
I am currently available in Squamish on Monday afternoons. If you require more frequent care, I encourage you to seek another physiotherapist who can meet your needs.

Mackenzie Kemps BSc(H)PT
I am a certified physiotherapist with special interest and training with runners and the foot / ankle complex.
I graduated in 2017 from Brunel University London in the UK with my Bachelors of Science in Physiotherapy degree and immediately jumped into working in the musculoskeletal world. Throughout my career I have worked in a number of different settings which has provided me with the skills of being a very well rounded therapist with a number of different skillsets before shifting focus towards the lower limb.
Running specialized
Prior to the pandemic I began my training with The Running Clinic to specialize in preventing and rehabilitating running based injuries but also assessing running technique and shoe choices. I combine this experience as a track and field coach as well as further education in the foot/ ankle complex and the hip to give me a full chain approach to maximizing your body’s potential when hitting the trails.
The foot is our base. The foot is also an area of my body we tend to not give enough attention to. We can correct a lot of biomechanical breakdowns that can lead to inefficiencies or to injury, by just changing how you utilize your foot.
Treatment Approach
My treatment style is a healthy mix of hands on techniques and active movement based approaches. The hands on techniques I utilize are myofascial release / mobilization, soft tissue massage, dry needling, joint mobilization, and taping with sports tape or kinesiotape. I believe in being on a team with my client – I hope to provide an achievable and individualized plan that give you the tools to drive your recovery across the finish line. I have been a life long athlete myself competing at BUCS Nationals for triple jump and long jump while in university then after a serious ankle injury I changed my focus towards long distance running and ended up competing at BUCS Nationals again for cross country. Although being a passionate runner I’ve had the misfortune of also being a very injured runner so I put that knowledge, empathy and experience into how I work with my athletes. Aside from running I’m also an avid snowboarder – I teach snowboarding up at Whistler in my free time. I also mountain bike, climb and hike.

I’m an orthopaedic, concussion and vestibular (dizziness/vertigo) physiotherapist. I graduated with an honours Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology degree from the University of Waterloo in 2007 and followed this with a Masters of Science degree in Physical Therapy from McMaster University in 2010. After 7 years of community-based post-graduate coursework – in the fall of 2018, I completed my final advanced orthopaedic manual therapy exams and was able to successfully attain Fellowship status within the Canadian Academy of Manipulative Physical Therapy (FCAMPT) – the highest post-graduate level of manual therapy that can be achieved in Canada.
My current qualifications/certifications provide the ability to take on an issue using a full systems approach: manual/manipulative therapy (FCAMPT), intramuscular needling (Certified Gunn Intramuscular Stimulation practitioner), concussion injuries (Certified ImPACT Trained Physical Therapist, Certified Shift Concussion Management Provider), dizziness/vertigo issues (Certification in Vestibular Therapy), instrument-assisted soft tissue release (Certified M1 Graston Practitioner), nervous system assessment and treatment (Certified within the Neuro Orthopaedic Institute’s Mobilization of the Nervous System) and bracing/proprioceptive taping (Kinesio Taping Level 1 and 2 certifications, Advanced Physical Therapy Education Institute’s certification in Peripheral and Spinal therapeutic taping).
