Persistent Pain / Tendon Injuries / Climbing Injuries / Psychologically Informed Care

About Me

I’m a physiotherapist with over a decade of experience helping people navigate complex injuries and persistent pain. Early in my career, I focused on climbing injuries and tendon recovery—work that revealed just how unpredictable and challenging healing can be. That experience sparked a deeper interest in pain science and shaped my commitment to supporting people through persistent pain conditions.

Is this the right fit for you?

My approach is collaborative, evidence-based, and tailored to each person’s needs—addressing physical challenges while supporting the emotional and psychological aspects that may affect recovery. I work with people experiencing long-standing pain from sports injuries, tendon issues, nerve pain, joint pain, workplace injuries, motor vehicle accidents, post-surgical pain, and persistent pain in areas like the back or neck—even when there’s no clear diagnosis.

I also support clients living with complex conditions, including fibromyalgia, myalgic encephalomyelitis/chronic fatigue syndrome (ME/CFS), complex regional pain syndrome (CRPS), and persistent tendinopathies. Many experience pain with movement, flare-ups, allodynia, or hyperalgesia—and together, we work to understand these patterns and build strategies that support meaningful change.

My practice is trauma-informed and sensitive to the ways mental health can shape physical recovery. I collaborate with clients who are navigating challenges that may affect their rehab process—helping them work toward their goals in ways that feel safe, empowering, and sustainable. Whether your pain is recent or has persisted for years, I’ll help you make sense of it, navigate it, and build confidence in your body again. Together, we’ll explore small, meaningful changes that support your long-term well-being.

Professional Background

I began practicing in Squamish in 2013 and opened a clinic focused on climbing injuries in 2015. Over time, my work expanded into broader pain care and system-level innovation. I’ve led programs throughout Vancouver, including the province’s first low-barrier, non-pharmacological pain management initiative for underserved populations in Vancouver’s Downtown Eastside, and later an interdisciplinary intensive post-hospital discharge program that brought together over 50 clinicians to support patients through complex transitions using a reablement approach. I’ve also taught in UBC’s Physical Therapy Department and recently completed a two-year term on the executive of the Canadian Physiotherapy Association’s Pain Science Division.

In 2023, I took a sabbatical to develop a mental health curriculum for clinicians, focused on psychologically-informed care. The course is now being offered in collaboration with a mental health professional—bringing together diverse perspectives to support clinicians in integrating mental health into physical health practice.

I’m an orthopaedic, concussion and vestibular (dizziness/vertigo) physiotherapist. I graduated with an honours Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology degree from the University of Waterloo in 2007 and followed this with a Masters of Science degree in Physical Therapy from McMaster University in 2010. Prior to entering physiotherapy, I worked as an ergonomist for the Iron Ore Company of Canada in Newfoundland and as an ergonomic consultant in Ann Arbor, Michigan.

After 7 years of community-based post-graduate coursework – in the fall of 2018, I completed my final advanced orthopaedic manual therapy exams and was able to successfully attain Fellowship status within the Canadian Academy of Manipulative Physical Therapy (FCAMPT) – the highest post-graduate level of manual therapy that can be achieved in Canada.

My current qualifications/certifications provide the ability to take on an issue using a full systems approach: manual/manipulative therapy (FCAMPT), intramuscular needling (Certified Gunn Intramuscular Stimulation practitioner), concussion injuries (Certified ImPACT Trained Physical Therapist, Certified Shift Concussion Management Provider), dizziness/vertigo issues (Certification in Vestibular Therapy), instrument-assisted soft tissue release (Certified M1 Graston Practitioner), nervous system assessment and treatment (Certified within the Neuro Orthopaedic Institute’s Mobilization of the Nervous System) and bracing/proprioceptive taping (Kinesio Taping Level 1 and 2 certifications, Advanced Physical Therapy Education Institute’s certification in Peripheral and Spinal therapeutic taping).

My ongoing continuing education also demonstrates my particular interest in shoulder rehabilitation (various certifications/courses under American physiotherapist Mike Reinold and Australian physiotherapist Lyn Watson – two well-known researchers within the field of shoulder rehab) and lower back rehab (coursework under Canadian lower back pain expert Stuart McGill and American Strength and Conditioning Specialist Mike Boyle).
